What is the name of this book I read as child about a mentally-disabled boy and a mouse?

I remember some scientists did an experiment on the boy's mouse and it improved it's intelligence. They decided to do the same experiment on the boy, improving his intelligence tremendously, but after a few days he started to become retarded again. I remember it was a short story.

Reply:Flowers for ALgernon. It was originally published as a short story, and then was lengthened into a novel. A movie called "Charly" was made from it also.
