What is the name of the Guru who decided to write holy scriptures in Hinduism?

I am told that there was some guru or poet who decided to write holy scripture thinking that next generation won't be so smart to memorize everything. Like he knew that next generation would have to read it to understand it.

What is the name of that Guru? I am not sure if he is a Guru or Saint. So, also answer if you can.

What is the name of the Guru who decided to write holy scriptures in Hinduism?
Sage Ved Vyaas

and sage Markandeya
Reply:Nobody came to the ear of a specific person and whispered into the ears without any proof or alibi. All the revelations were after many years of penance, fasting, meditation and complete surrender to the will of the Divine.

Veda Vyasa is credited as the person who had visions of the scripture and it was Lord Ganesha who wrote it with his tusk as the pen.

However there is no ONE scripture but many books which carries the divine messages for the human species of all times. This message addresses where we are from, why we are here and where we shall go next. Right and Wrong are only relative and not absolute. So these books takes man on a journey of evolution of consciousness where one will learn how to cope with the stresses of LIFE and how to detach oneself form these stresses so that we we can face this transition of passing on to the next phase of our life with relatively less pain. Hinduism never believes in proselytizing because everybody will get exactly what he deserves and wishes for. AHIMSA and Detachment is the basis of t his Hindu Philosophy.
Reply:There is no such Hindu Guru or poet as you have described.I think somebody has taken you for a "Ride".

P.S.:- GURU is not a recent word as suggested by a member. It is an ancient word.

Etymolgy:- "Ru" means intellectual darkness---"Gu" means one takes his diciple from intelectual darkness to enlightenment.

"Tamaso maa Jydhir Gamaya"

"Avidhyaanaam Anthas Timihira Mihira Dweepa Nagari"
Reply:I agree that rishis in india were really awesome people. But going around and boasting about those great people does not do any good. Neither their philosophy any way relevant to current situations.

We always need to talk about modern gurus, the ordinary people with common sense and responsibility.
Reply:Which Hindu scriptures?

The Vedas were memorized and first written down much later.

Guru is a modern word.

I think what you're looking for is a pandit(a) or rishi%26gt;

Find out who the best Sanskrit scholar is at your local temple and ask them!
Reply:Vyaasa certainly was one rishi who decided to commit ideas to writing but he didn't turn do this with every shruti (memorized texts).
Reply:Scriptures of hinduism are written by various Rishis and not single one guru.
Reply: it was sage Vedvyasa -avtaara of Lord Vishnu. He wrote for kaliyug ppl
