Reply:Containment. The theory was to keep the Soviet Union bound up in their present satellite countries. And not to let them expand into other areas of the world. America had a whole list of organization designed to get a head start on the Soviets and to discourage them from expansion. Most of these groups were actually suppose to be groups of military allies and to be swamped with financial aid. NATO, SEATO,OAS, Alliance for Progress.and probably some we didn't know about. For the most part containment worked and we were allowed through different processes force the USSR in financial ruin which they are still trying to recover from. Now that Russia is under control of Putin, a former KGB official, I expect that Russia will gradually and covert return to the policies of the former Soviet Union.
