It's this disorder that causes blindness, and I just can't seem to be able to find it to do some research on it. It's only passed through the mother, and if the mother has it, all of her children will have it. However, if the father has it, and his spouse does not, none of their children will have it and it will dissapear from their family line. I also understand that it is not ssex-linked or sex influenced. What is it? Or, if you can't help me with that, how the hell is it inherited, and what is the source?
What is the name of this rare disorder that causes blindness?
Maybe you are talking about Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy. This is believed to be a mitochondrial disorder. Since you only get your mitochondria from your mother, it would only be passed from mother to child. It causes a complete loss of central vision within two to eight weeks. It may also be accompanied by eye pain at first and then numbness or tingling.
Reply:I don't know if this help, but at least it will direct you somewhere that might be helpful.
